PRESS RELEASE: Governor Pat McCrory Opposes Calls to Assign North Carolina’s Electors Before Votes Are Counted
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 25, 2024
Raleigh, NC — In response to Rep. Andy Harris suggesting North Carolina’s state legislature should assign the state’s 16 electoral votes before counting ballots, former Governor Pat McCrory, Chair of RightCount’s operations in North Carolina, issued the following statement:
“Any attempt to bypass the voices of our citizens in choosing our next president would be a grave mistake. Assigning electoral votes before counting ballots undermines the commitment to free and fair elections that every North Carolinian holds dear. Our election officials and congressional delegation have dedicated themselves to supporting those affected by the hurricane, ensuring that every voice can be heard. Let’s honor that work and our election process by respecting the will of the people. It’s essential that we allow North Carolinians the chance to cast their ballots and have their voices counted. That is what true leadership demands.”
