PRESS RELEASE: RightCount Praises Strength of U.S. Election System, Hard Work of Georgia Election Workers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 6, 2024

Atlanta, Ga. — Former State Senate President Eric Johnson, Chair of RightCount Georgia, issued a statement today recognizing the strength, integrity, and dedication demonstrated throughout the state’s election process. Amid record-breaking voter turnout and bomb threats emanating from a foreign adversary, election workers handled voters, managed lines, and continue to report results efficiently, transparently and accurately.

“Georgia’s election workers have been the backbone of our democracy. Their tireless commitment to processing votes and maintaining order amid record turnout has ensured a fair, accurate, and smoothly conducted election. Violence and threats must never be tolerated. The work and response of our professional and dedicated election workers and first responders, along with the advocacy of our statewide leadership committee, should give every Georgian a renewed confidence in the strength and reliability of our election system.”

Senator Johnson continued by urging all Americans to come together in the wake of this closely contested election, acknowledging that the challenges our nation faces are best met with resilience and cooperation. “Now that the election is over, it is the time to set aside differences and address the pressing challenges that confront America. The voters have spoken, and we must now get to work on building a stronger, safer and more prosperous nation.”

Finally, Johnson emphasized that RightCount will continue its mission of building public trust in America’s election process. “In an election season as closely watched and competitive as this one, we recognize that not all our fellow Georgians will be pleased with the outcome. The truth is that despite the false information of detractors on both sides of the aisle, state election reforms did not suppress turnout and in fact lead to one of the most professionally run elections in state history. And attempted last minute rule changes that some said were necessary to ensure election integrity were in fact not.  RightCount will remain committed to enhancing public confidence in our election process, ensuring that every voter can trust their voice has been heard, and their vote has counted.”

RightCount earned major legal victories in Georgia, as the State Supreme Court upheld the Oct. 17 Fulton County Superior Court ruling by Judge Thomas Cox Jr. stating that the State Election Board’s (SEB) last-minute rules exceeded their statutory authority. The case, brought forward by prominent Republican plaintiffs, including former state Rep. Scot Turner and election board member James Hall, centered on protecting the separation of powers and ensuring that election laws reflect the will of the legislature, not unelected bureaucrats. RightCount filed an amicus brief in support of this case, joining a coalition of Georgia legislators who emphasized that the SEB’s actions threatened the integrity of the electoral process.

RightCount also conducted survey research and educated citizens across Georgia on election integrity issues. In addition to producing ads featuring trusted messengers and voting safeguards, the 501(c)(3) organization successfully recruited and launched a leadership advisory committee and garnered statewide and national news media coverage to build public confidence in the voting process and election outcomes.

Along with former Senate President Eric Johnson RightCount’s Leadership Advisory Committee is comprised of civic leaders from across Georgia, including Veteran and small business owner Byron Gatewood, Firefighter and EMT Brice Futch, Probate Judge Jonathan Fordham, Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley, Pastor Georgia Dillard, Election Attorney Bryan Tyson, Veteran, County Board of Elections Chair and small business owner U.D. Roberts and Attorney Brent Herrin.
