Harrisburg, Pa. – In case you missed it, in a recent op-ed published on PennLive, former Pennsylvania Governor Mark S. Preventing Future Election Chaos: A Call for Clarity and Consistency

March 26, 2025

Notable excerpts from their piece include:

  • On the mission of RightCount Pennsylvania:

“RightCount Pennsylvania was founded to build confidence in the Commonwealth’s election process. We advocate for commonsense election integrity measures that protect the rights of all voters and prevent the confusion that have plagued past elections.”

  • Regarding the evolution of Pennsylvania’s election process:

“In 2019, the state enacted no-excuse mail-in voting for the first time, a policy that quickly overwhelmed election officials in 2020. Despite the accuracy of the election, last-minute guidance, lawsuits, and delayed results led to confusion and, ultimately, undermined voter confidence.”

  • On the necessity of legislative reforms:

“Pennsylvania’s election code provides safeguards against partisan scheming and fraud. Strengthening election integrity means ensuring voters and election officials understand those rules well before ballots are cast.”

  • Recommendations for future actions:

“To ensure future elections remain efficient, secure, and accurate, Pennsylvania lawmakers should take steps to enact election integrity legislation. This should include commonsense reforms that are both proven to increase trust in elections and also widely supported by voters across the Commonwealth, such as requiring voter ID and allowing counties to pre-canvass ballots before Election Day.”

Schweiker and Barletta conclude by emphasizing that while the 2024 election showcased the strengths of Pennsylvania’s election system, continuous improvement through meaningful reforms is essential to maintain and enhance public trust in the electoral process.
