PRESS RELEASE: Governor Pat McCrory Praises Strength of U.S. Election System, Hard Work of State Election Workers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 6, 2024

Charlotte, NC — Former Governor Pat McCrory, Chair of RightCount North Carolina, issued a statement today recognizing the strength, integrity, and dedication demonstrated throughout North Carolina’s election process. With record-breaking voter turnout and the impact of Hurricane Helene, election workers across the entire state handled an extraordinary number of voters, managed lines, and reported results efficiently, transparently and accurately.

“I offer my congratulations and best wishes to President Trump and Governor-Elect Stein. North Carolina’s election workers are the backbone of our democracy. Their tireless commitment to processing votes and maintaining order across polling locations has ensured a fair, accurate, and smoothly conducted election. Their work, coupled with the advocacy of our statewide leadership committee and the efforts our federal delegation and the State Election Board following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, should give every North Carolinian a renewed confidence in the strength and reliability of our state’s election system.”

Governor McCrory continued by urging all Americans to come together in the wake of this closely contested election, acknowledging that the challenges our nation faces are best met with resilience and cooperation. “Now that the election is over, it is the time to put aside our differences and address the pressing challenges that confront America. Whether we are working to reduce costs, achieve economic prosperity, rebuild following Helene, or safeguard our national security, we must work together.”

Finally, Governor McCrory emphasized that RightCount will continue its mission of building public trust in America’s election process. “In an election season as closely watched and competitive as this one, we recognize that not all my fellow North Carolinians will be pleased with the outcome. RightCount will remain committed to enhancing public confidence in our election process, ensuring that every voter in this state can trust their voice has been heard, and their vote has counted.”

RightCount conducted survey research and educated citizens across North Carolina on election integrity issues. In addition to producing ads featuring trusted messengers and voting safeguards, the 501(c)(3) organization successfully recruited and launched a leadership advisory committee and garnered statewide and national news media coverage to build public confidence in the voting process and election outcomes. McCrory himself authored op-eds in U.S. News & World Report and The Carolina Journal emphasizing the Tar Heel State’s prepared for running a smooth voting process.

Along with Governor McCrory RightCount’s Leadership Advisory Committee is comprised of civic leaders from across North Carolina, including retired Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison, Rocky Mount Mayor Sandy Roberson, Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones, Marine Veteran and Mecklenburg County Commissioner Matthew Ridenhour, former staff for U.S. Senator Jesse Helms Wayne Boyles, Chairman of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce Nat Robertson, retired Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloniger, Pinehurst Police Chief Glen Webb, former Chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Elections Grant Whitney, former firefighter and Supervising Fire Marshal Robert Maloney and former Executive Director of the North Carolina Republican Party Dallas Woodhouse.
