RightCount Applauds Voter Roll Maintenance Efforts in Nevada

Reno, Nevada: RightCount, an organization dedicated to rebuilding trust in Nevada’s secure election system, today released the follow statement from former Governor and RightCount State Co-Chair Robert List.

“Accurate and current voter registration rolls are the cornerstone of a secure election. They prevent fraud, ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot, and enhance trust in our electoral system. As Nevada prepares to play a pivotal role in this consequential election, I applaud our state and local election administrators for adhering to the rule of law and taking action in maintaining accurate voter registration rolls. By doing so, we uphold the founding principles of our republic, ensure that every vote counts, and every voice is heard,” said RightCount Co-Chair and former Governor Robert List.

This week, Nevada counties began mailing notices to nearly 157,000 people warning them their voter registration is scheduled to be set to inactive unless they take action. The effort is part of routine voter roll maintenance, the process of which is set in Nevada Revised Statute and federal law through the National Voter Registration Act. A total of 156,996 NVRA notices were sent by Nevada’s 17 counties, according to the secretary of state’s office. That’s equivalent to around 7.8% of all active voters statewide. Those who don’t return the postcard by Aug. 6 will be removed from the active voters list to an “inactive” status – meaning they won’t receive a mail ballot for the general election but would still be eligible to vote.

Survey research spearheaded by RightCount this year found that more than half (57%) of Republicans and 44% of Independents in Nevada believe it’s an “extremely critical problem” that the state’s universal mail ballot law facilitates voting among Nevada residents not registered or eligible to vote. RightCount was organized to restore trust in the electoral process and to support the public officials sworn to uphold the rule of law and ensure legal and accurate vote counts. The operation is actively recruiting and mobilizing local Nevada leaders including veterans, firefighters, faith and business owners to help restore faith and trust in the security of the state’s elections.
